Die Utopie des Sozialismus

A society can only be sustainable if it breaks the compulsion for ever new land acquisitions, which is embedded as a structural principle in capitalist ownership. A society that overcomes this expansive principle in a democratic way must be socialist, argues Dörre in this fundamental book.

However, to regain its appeal, socialism must move away from its dogmatically rigid claims and become an attractive utopia once again. The content of this utopia can no longer be the liberation of productive forces from the shackles of inhibiting production relations. The socialism of the 21st century, which reflects on its own history and its diverse failures, represents the search for an emergency brake that brings the train racing towards an abyss to a halt. Yet, there is still time to set the course so that alternative ways out of the epochal economic-ecological crisis become possible. At the center of Dörre's vision for society is a fundamentally changed relationship between society and nature, which incorporates feminist, ecological, and also indigenous currents of capitalist-critical thought.
