Although set in a time when the Seeweid (now the Bellerive Museum) was still somewhat outside the city in the countryside, and in the city itself, in Zurich, the lamplighter lit the street lamps every evening, the experiences of the Turnach children remain vivid and relatable. Even though horse-drawn carriages serve as the backdrop instead of cars, and a modern Zurich family could hardly afford so much staff; namely a governess Sophie, a cook Balbine, and a houseman Ulrich: Learning to swim is likely still associated with the same feelings and experiences as it was back then when Lotti Turnach learned, and the heart racing when treading forbidden paths is still felt today just as the Turnach children experienced it.
