On April 27, 2014, Pope John Paul II was canonized. He is regarded as a modern apostle of the people and will also be remembered as a thinker in history. Based on the so-called "personalism," he developed his own philosophical-theological approach, which he called the "Theology of the Body." In this approach, the mystery of the loving relationship between God and humanity is placed at the center. The personal exchange between God and humanity gives the human body a sacramental role. Based on the supernatural significance of the body, Pope John Paul II unfolds a Christian understanding of humanity that attributes an unprecedented dignity to sexuality.
