Die Teufelsinsel

A shantytown and glass shard neighborhood in Iceland's capital, Reykjavík. Wild drunks, impoverished farmer's sons, and aging prostitutes shape the scene. Just below the Arctic Circle, anarchy flourishes abundantly. However, instead of self-pity and resignation, defiant irony, brutal zest for life, and reckless love prevail. The characters prefer to believe in Elvis Presley rather than the Edda. These losers are the real heroes, and their slum is also a goldmine, filled with a strange spirit of renewal. "The Devil's Island" brought Einar Kárason national and international recognition, and the novel was successfully adapted into a film.
