Die Stunde der Optimisten

Trade conflicts, Brexit, and Euro turbulence are dampening the mood. For many, it seems unimaginable to even maintain our prosperity. To all those, economist Thomas Straubhaar says: Enough with the pessimism! The fact is: The economic situation of people in Germany has continuously improved, life expectancy and living standards have risen – no end to this trend is expected. However, it is also true that digitalization, globalization, and demographic change are altering many of the previously valid assumptions and forecasts. A new economy requires a new economics. Contemporary economic policy must focus on resilience. Master plans and comprehensive concepts are tools of the past. Prosperity for individuals as well as for society can still be generated if we develop the will and ability to embrace the new as an advantage and adapt to changes consistently. After years of doomsayers, the time has come: The hour of the optimists has struck.
