Die Stunde der Mauersegler

January 1988. When the Simon-Hauschke family leaves East Berlin at dawn, they have endured more than a year of exclusion. The biggest blow: they are only allowed to leave as a trio, as the exit application no longer applies to son Christian. Many years after reunification, a family celebration erupts into scandal: too many secrets and lies have accumulated during the years of the GDR, at the time of the fall of the Wall, and in the post-reunification period; the burden of silence is too great. It is only great-granddaughter Lou, a journalism student, who begins to ask critical questions. In doing so, she realizes how difficult it is to live up to her own moral standards. A moving novel, inspired by true events, partly based on highly emotional interviews with witnesses conducted by the author.
