This book describes both the exciting discovery of the stratosphere itself and various unexpected phenomena within it: a manned balloon flight in 1901 reaching an altitude of 11 km, an expedition to Lake Victoria in 1908, the discovery of the ozone layer around 1930, the "Berlin phenomenon" in 1952, the influence of volcanic eruptions in 1982, the ozone hole in 1985, and the impact of solar activity in 1987. Additionally, it demonstrates how these phenomena are interconnected and how they cause anthropogenic and natural fluctuations in our climate system. Using the stratosphere as an example, the book aims to contribute to the understanding of the exploration of complex relationships in nature.
