In the flourishing city republic of Vastona, orphaned boy Marco is accepted into the Order of the Seers, which promises him a future beyond the streets. He befriends Elena, a girl from the poorest background who works in the factories to support her family. When a colossal war threatens to engulf the city and destroy everything they know, Marco and Elena must seek out unusual allies to prevent the worst. For the true danger is far greater than they realize – and it lurks right in the heart of the city.
