Product details

The social construction of transsexuality is the empirical and theoretical analysis of a phenomenon that has established itself in Western societies since the mid-20th century, challenging cultural fundamental beliefs about the bodily nature and constancy of individuals' gender identity. The study is based on interaction-analytical and genealogical research as well as a comprehensive ethnography of the heterogeneous practices involved in a medicalized gender transition: psychiatric diagnostics, endocrinology, plastic surgery, voice therapy, justice, and subculture.
