Die Selbstmordrate bei Clowns

Serhij Zhadan, poet, writer, and activist, is one of the key figures in the freedom movement in Ukraine. He lives in the eastern part of the country, in Kharkiv, which is not an easy place for friends of democratic rights. In early March, Zhadan was brutally beaten by a group of unknown assailants. In the anthology "The Suicide Rate Among Clowns," he shares stories and other texts from the early days of independent Ukraine. This was just a few years ago. The book, entertaining, bitter, and fast-paced, helps to understand what was happening in this European country during the first months of 2014.
