Rediscovery of a Swedish classic: the 1908 debut of feminist Elin Wägner. Stockholm, early 20th century. Four young women are determined to live independently in the big city, which is unheard of at the time. Their salaries barely cover their survival; they share a small apartment and often live on little more than dry bread. Every attempt to change this injustice is met with misunderstanding, and they are repeatedly advised to simply find a man and get married. But together, the four pursue their dream. With a lot of wit and language that still feels modern today, the story depicts the lives of young women in the city who refuse to be intimidated by obstacles.
