An adventurous and true story about friendship and courage. Ticino, mid-19th century: Little Giorgio is the son of a poor Ticinese mountain farming family. Out of necessity, he is sold as a chimney sweep in Milan. There, he has to climb through dark chimneys and scrape off the soot with his bare hands. However, the children resist their oppressors and unite in the secret society of the "Black Brothers." But danger lurks not only in the chimneys, but also on the streets - from a vicious gang of Milanese street boys. Lisa Tetzner learned about the often deadly fate of the chimney sweep boys through old chronicles during her exile in Ticino and began to write their story based on Giorgio's example. She died before she could finish the book, and her husband Kurt Held - who later became the author of "The Red Zora" - completed the novel.
