Product details
"The Sluts" takes place in the world of dating platforms. The central character is an escort named Brad. The story unfolds on a website where escorts can be rated by their clients. It is narrated solely through the postings, emails, and conversations of those contributing to the discussion. It quickly becomes clear that their claims contradict each other, opinions clash, and soon one is left in a jumble of lies and half-truths, unsure if any truth lies beneath and which voice can be trusted. Throughout this war of opinions, various contributors, under different profile names, also join the discussion, using the thread to weave the most outrageous sexual fantasies. These fantasies escalate to the claim of the existence of a snuff video in which the two main protagonists are said to have participated: what begins as a humorous exchange between disappointed and satisfied clients turns into a cold, brutal game with feelings and lives. Cooper's "The Sluts" is a fascinatingly wicked thought experiment about fantasies and identities, truth and lies, dependencies, and extreme forms of love and sexuality. The book is obsessed with the concept of truth in the same way as Greek tragedies or romantic poetry, but it also evokes the thought experiments of Jorge Luis Borges or John Barth on this theme. What is truth? What is fiction?.
