Die Rückkehr des Buddha

A subtle play with being and appearance. The student from Russia is actually a promising young man, but he tends to have strange delusions. Is the well-groomed older gentleman in the Parisian café really the beggar to whom he gave alms two years ago? The two become friends, and the student begins to visit Pawel Alexandrowitsch and his young lover regularly. One evening, he considers whether it might be best for his friend to die right now, as he seems to be completely happy. The next day, the friend is found murdered. And the only witness, a golden Buddha, has disappeared...
