Product details

On 27 June 1970, the South Tyrolean brothers Reinhold and Günther Messner succeeded for the first time in climbing the Rupal flank on Nanga Parbat, the highest rock and ice wall in the world at 4500 metres. But the descent over the other side into the Diamir Valley ends tragically with Günther's death by avalanche. At the instigation of the expedition leader, the true circumstances of the catastrophe are concealed. Reinhold Messner's own account is banned, he himself the target of decades of character assassination campaigns, having sacrificed his younger brother to his ambition. "The Red Rocket on Nanga Parbat", available again after years, is his key work to the greatest controversy in recent alpine history.
