Die Reise in den Westen

The most popular novel in China - first time in German translation Prize of the Leipzig Book Fair 2017 in the category Translation Xiyouji, The Journey to the West, is one of the four classic novels of China. It tells the story of four pilgrims who, at the Emperor's command, set out on the long and perilous journey to the West to pay homage to Buddha and to fetch holy scriptures: the pious priest Tripitaka and his companions, monkey king Sun Wukong, boar Bajie and the hideous-looking sand monk. The three once displeased in heaven and were banished to earth to prove themselves. This story about the popular Chinese legends and myths is familiar to every child in their country of origin, but the novel has never been completely translated into German. This work of Chinese literature is not only in China, but also in its neighbouring countries.
