In foreign legal systems, the role of comparative law in jurisprudence is discussed intensively and sometimes controversially. In Switzerland, comparative law is recognized as an important tool for the application of law in all areas of law. However, the practical handling as well as methodological questions are hardly discussed. In order to promote the dialogue between academia and the judiciary, the Faculty of Law of the University of Lucerne and the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law organized a conference. Institut für Rechtsvergleichung organized a conference on this topic. In addition to the doctrinal demands of academia on comparative law, the present conference proceedings also show the framework conditions under which comparative law becomes possible in judicial practice - often in a pragmatic way.
