This book deals with the legal aspects of whistleblowing in the public sphere. The reporting of misconduct in companies and authorities, as well as the disclosure of tax data, has recently sparked a socially controversial debate: When should the sharing of information in the context of public reporting be permissible? To address this question, the author examines the legal permissibility of information disclosure by whistleblowers and whistleblowing platforms based on the freedom of expression outlined in the European Convention on Human Rights. She establishes specific criteria for legality and analyzes the extent to which these criteria are taken into account in German criminal, copyright, and data protection law. Concrete legislative proposals follow.
