The "Israelite Bible" by the rabbi and philosopher Ludwig Philippson (1811–1889) shaped Jewish life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is an independent and unique translation that vividly conveys the word choice and tonal qualities of the Hebrew original into a fluent German style. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the translator's death, the Abraham Geiger College at the University of Potsdam presents a carefully revised new edition. The three-volume set includes the five books of Moses and the prophetic readings for the Sabbath and festival days (Volume 1), the Prophets (Volume 2), and the Writings (Volume 3). Ludwig Philippson's aim to publish a generally accessible Jewish Bible translation for home, school, and synagogue use comes to life once again.
The present second volume of the revised translation contains the Former and Latter Prophets of the Hebrew Tanakh also in a bilingual version (Hebrew-German).
