Product details

What determines how two people who meet each other for the first time behave towards each other? Culturally learned or a neurobiological process programmed into the DNA of our species? According to Polyvagal theory, mammals - and primates in particular - have developed brain structures that control both social and defensive behaviour. One result of this phylogenetic process is a nervous system that enables humans to express emotions, communicate, influence physical and behavioral states, and enter and maintain safe and supportive relationships. Polyvagal theory enables researchers and therapists to analyse behaviour based on biological conditions and provides them with new insights into how interventions can help people with social, behavioural and psychological problems.
