Die Parenzana

An irresistible invitation to experience the Parenzana on foot or by bike. The Parenzana, the narrow-gauge railway from Trieste through Koper, Portorož, and Buje to Poreč (Latin: Parentium), was operated by the k. k. State Railways since 1902. After the dissolution of Austria-Hungary, the Italian State Railways took over the operation but discontinued the line in 1935. Today, the route, which runs through three countries—Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia—is used as the "Path of Health and Friendship" and serves as a multinational cycling trail spanning approximately 110 kilometers. The Parenzana is both adventurous and feels like a natural wonder.
