Product details

I work at NYLON. This term commonly used by locals dates back to the time when the Östringen fiber plant was founded under the name "Nylon Faserwerke GmbH" by the British Nylon Spinners. Shortly thereafter, ICI took over the BNS plants. But why did one of the largest chemical companies in the world build a factory right in the middle of Kraichgau in the countryside? Why did groundbreaking developments such as high-speed winders or the first microfibers emerge there, as well as the now globally leading company for commercial software applications, SAP? The editors meticulously explore these and other intriguing questions in this chronology. The book not only describes the invention of nylon and perlon and their patent grants but also the rise and fall of synthetic fiber production in Germany and Europe. It also sheds light on why the chemical giant ICI disappeared without a trace. And what became of the vast area of the former fiber factory? Who works and produces there today? The revitalization through an industrial park is also a success story. The authors have managed to sift through an incredible amount of information and, with the support of many contemporaries and companions, vividly and engagingly describe what is essentially a dry subject. In doing so, they make an important contribution to the description of the economic development of Östringen and the region, as well as the textile and synthetic fiber industry.
