Die Neuordnung der Küchen

How do we want to live, work, comfort, cook, sleep and love? For materialist feminists of the 20th century, these were not utopian questions, but very concrete questions about the social and spatial conditions of new, less isolating and violent ways of providing. The transformation of society also requires a radical reconstruction of kitchens, as Alexandra Kollontai, whose text is here for the first time in German translation, knew, as did the architects of collective housing and Felicita Reuschling, whose work we commemorate in this volume. The volume draws on the legacy of un/realised housing utopias of the Soviet 1920s, Red Vienna and the communes of the 1960s, asking about the failure and the heavy mortgages of these histories as well as about their radiance for contemporary queer-feminist discus- sions about more sustainable and happier ways of living. At the same time, it intervenes in the current debate about a right to housing.
