Ross Thomas, born in 1926 in Oklahoma, was an American author. He began writing sports reports for a local newspaper as a teenager, fought as an infantryman in World War II in the Philippines, and later worked as a reporter in Louisiana. In the 1950s, he lived in Bonn, where he established the German AFN office, as well as in Frankfurt am Main. He worked as a public relations and campaign consultant for politicians such as Lyndon B. Ross Thomas is considered one of the great (political) thriller authors alongside Eric Ambler, Raymond Chandler, and Dashiell Hammett.
