Ross Thomas, born in 1926 in Oklahoma, was an American author. He began writing sports reports for a local newspaper as a teenager, fought as an infantryman in World War II in the Philippines, and later worked as a reporter in Louisiana. In the 1950s, he lived in Bonn, where he established the German AFN office, as well as in Frankfurt am Main. He worked as a public relations and campaign consultant for politicians such as Lyndon B. Johnson, as well as a journalist and union spokesperson in the USA and Nigeria. "Just as there are films that never age, there are also books and authors that one never tires of. Ross Thomas is considered one of the great (political) thriller authors alongside Eric Ambler, Raymond Chandler, and Dashiell Hammett. The theme of his 25 books primarily revolves around the abysses of American domestic and foreign policy. He was awarded the American Edgar Allan Poe Award twice and the German Crime Prize four times. Gisbert Haefs, translator and editor of works by Ambrose Bierce, Rudyard Kipling, Jorge Luis Borges, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, among others. The author of radio plays, crime novels, and historical novels has received multiple awards. Julian Haefs (*1984) studied communication and product design as well as theater, film, and media studies. Since 2015, he has been working as a freelance literary translator and editor.
