Disappointment, sorrow, anger, and sometimes even hatred - these are some of the intense emotions that many daughters direct towards their own mothers. "Why didn't she love me?" or "Why did she completely consume me and thereby abuse me?" such questions often hang in the air as accusations; the daughters are left alone with their negative feelings. But how can reconciliation with the mother occur? In 24 stories, daughters narrate their mother's life story in their own words and in the first person. Through this shift in perspective, they manage to view their mother in a completely new light. The conflict, the accusations, the misunderstood feelings - all of this dissolves into a liberating understanding. They succeed in sensing their own mother, so to speak, from the inside - as the "mother within me" - and reconciling with her.
