Product details
Louis grows up in the years leading up to the French Revolution in a Bernese patrician estate. His mother, a former slave, comes from Saint-Domingue. She was bought her freedom in 1763 by her current master and now lives in Switzerland as his secret mistress. Louis cherishes the hours when his mother tells him stories in the attic about African Guinea and the lives of slaves in Saint-Domingue. Later, he learns that the master of the house is his father, and he suffers from the fact that this man ignores him.
