Die menschliche Stimme als Soloinstrument?

Is the human voice an instrument? And if not, what description would be most fitting? These guiding questions form the basis of this publication, which analyzes concert arias and concerts by composers Mozart, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Berg, and Gulda. As a comparison to the voice, parallels and differences in the development, interpretation, and perspective in performance and musicality are presented through two violin concertos. To ensure a direct comparison, only violin works by the aforementioned composers were used. Medium or focal point, voice conduit or language barrier, these areas of tension are outlined and described. This publication served as the foundation for the author to create a concert program, as well as the motivation to conduct further research.
