The application of local anesthesia in the field of general surgery, to the extent that it is beneficial for patients, has so far only been possible for those who have studied a significant number of relevant works and have learned through practice and experience the limited boundaries of the procedure. Surgical handbooks and textbooks provide only a very general overview, while the specialized monographs that address local anesthesia almost exclusively limit themselves to the often excessive recommendation of a specific method. Many individual aspects have been added in recent years that facilitate the practice of local anesthesia. It has also been shown that a schematic application of a method is not the right approach; rather, almost every operation, every tissue, and every body part requires a specific anesthesia technique, and surgeries are often only feasible with a precise understanding of the innervation of the surgical area under local anesthesia.

A vivid picture of local anesthesia also includes a representation of its application in specialized fields (ophthalmology, otology, rhinology, urology). Specialists have partially supported me in drafting these sections.
