Product details

In the series dedicated to the monuments of the city of Cologne, the last volume dealing with ecclesiastical monuments is the present depiction of Cologne Cathedral. With this volume and the accompanying description of the former churches and monasteries published in a supplementary volume, the special series on the ecclesiastical monuments of the city of Cologne is concluded.

Cologne Cathedral warranted a special presentation for various reasons, distinguishing it from the other major ecclesiastical monuments of Cologne, just as a separate volume was dedicated to Trier Cathedral. As the building itself dominates the cityscape today, it has become a landmark for the entire Lower Rhine, the most widely recognized among all major church buildings in western Germany, and is particularly inseparably linked to the image of the Rhine River in the eyes of foreign visitors.

This work provides a detailed account of the history, architectural history, building description, and furnishings, as well as the church treasures and many other details of Cologne Cathedral. The text is supplemented with over 280 historical illustrations and drawings.

This wonderful book is an unaltered reprint of the long-out-of-print original edition from 1937.
