Study paper from 2003 in the field of Politics - Political Theory and History of Ideas, grade: 1.3, Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, course: Main Seminar: Political Philosophy of the 20th Century, language: German.
Abstract: Jürgen Habermas, born in 1929 in Gummersbach, stands in the tradition of Critical Theory, which primarily traces back to Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno. Its beginning is generally marked by Max Horkheimer's inaugural lecture as director of the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt. He identifies the goal of a critical social philosophy as the philosophical interpretation of the fate of human beings, insofar as they are not merely individuals but members of a community. Therefore, it must primarily concern itself with those phenomena that can only be understood in the context of social life.
