Die Kinderkarawane

The Dutch children's author An Rutgers was born in Amsterdam in 1910. While still a student, she married her childhood friend, a physicist, and they had four children. Her writing career began with translations from Scandinavian languages. She wrote the major youth novels "The Children's Caravan," "If You Have Courage," "Pioneers and Their Grandchildren," and later "I Am Fedde." The latter two titles were awarded the German Youth Literature Prize. Many of An Rutgers' books were on the shortlist for the German Youth Literature Prize. An Rutgers is considered one of the most significant children's authors and was honored for her entire body of work with the Dutch State Prize for Children's and Youth Literature. She passed away in August 1990.
