We must not forget that a far more dangerous enemy is on its way to us. The Honored Matres, a rival order to the Bene Gesserit, are returning from the diaspora and are sweeping across the planets of the Old Empire with death and destruction. Thus, Rakis, the desert planet, is transformed into a heap of slag, and the legendary sandworms are ruthlessly incinerated. With this, the only source of the spice has dried up, and the Empire is destroyed. While the Matres attempt to utilize buried knowledge from the past through Gholas, the Bene Gesserit are doing everything in their power to revive the heroes of the Empire through their breeding program. Only Murbella, a former Matre, is striving to unite both sisterhoods, for she senses that the return of the Matres was not voluntary: they have encountered a terrible foe in the diaspora, one that lies beyond imagination.
