Die Integration religiöser Vielfalt in der staatlichen Schule

The work analyzes the significant constitutional and administrative court decisions regarding questions of religious practice in public schools since the 2000s and places them within the relevant social and academic contexts. Against the backdrop of the prevailing discourses in Germany on religious pluralization and integration issues, it highlights and critically comments on developments in case law concerning topics such as the hijab worn by female teachers, prayer in schools, homeschooling, and mandatory participation in swimming lessons and other school events. The work concludes that the interpretation and application of the fundamental right to freedom of religion in public schools can contribute to the integration of religious diversity, provided that it is carried out based on a consistent continuation of the religion-friendly approach of the Federal Constitutional Court in a manner sensitive to integration.
