Product details

Manifesto against the atrocities of war and a testament to individual artistic expression, or mere propaganda in times of conflict? Jacques Callot created a timeless work of art with his etching series The Great Miseries of War, which has influenced generations of artists after him. Despite the constraints imposed by his patrons, Callot succeeded in developing his own artistic style, his own technique, and his unique way of seeing and composing images. More than anything else, he wanted, as he fervently prayed as a child, "to excel in the profession he would one day pursue," and he wished "to live to be 43 years old." Both of these wishes would come true for Jacques Callot.
