They are the stuff of countless film adaptations: the actions of serial killers. Even though, or precisely because, their actions will always remain incomprehensible, they exert a great fascination on us "normal" people. The first question must be: Are there really so many serial killers that an entire encyclopedia can be filled with them? The answer: Yes, as the fifth revised and expanded edition of the "Great Encyclopedia of Serial Killers" proves. And it is not the least known who are recorded in this collection: Jack the Ripper, for example, whose exploits in foggy London have inspired many film adaptations. Fritz Haarmann, who was portrayed by actor Götz George in the film of his life, sporting his shaved head. Or Edward Gein, to name an example from the USA, who became the real-life murderous inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock's works.
