Product details

Dante Alighieri, born in 1265 in Florence and died in 1321 in Ravenna, first saw Beatrice at the age of nine, whom he later glorified in his work. His commitment to the fight for Florence's independence led to a trial in 1302 and ultimately to lifelong exile. Since then considered an outlaw, Dante primarily resided in Verona and traveled from there to many cities and regions in Northern Italy. Around 1316, Dante settled in Ravenna, initially at the court of Cangrande della Scala, later serving as a princely secretary and teacher of poetics and rhetoric.

"The world theater of the Latin Middle Ages is performed for the last time in the Commedia - but transported into a modern language, reflected in a soul that belongs to the rank of Michelangelo and Shakespeare. Thus, the Middle Ages are transcended; but of course, so is the epochal division of a shortsighted historiography. Their periodization will long be forgotten when Dante is still admired.".
