Product details
The Tale of Genji is the oldest and most significant work of Japanese women's literature. It is also considered the oldest novel in world literature. It was created between 1004 and 1011, when its author served as a lady-in-waiting to Empress Akiko. As a master of fluid prose, she skillfully uses the imagery of language to describe the romantic experiences of Prince Genji. Much like in a Nō play, the characters of the story are clearly defined in their traits against the backdrop of a constantly changing nature.
