Throughout history, there have always been refugees of faith. The news today is filled with accounts of people being persecuted and attacked because of their religious beliefs. Many choose to flee to a country that grants religious freedom, where they can pursue their spiritual needs without interference. Luther's new teachings led to conflicts that prompted countermeasures. The recatholicization attempted to regain lost ground, resulting in hardships that drove many people to flee. Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf und Pottendorf (1700-1760) was a German self-taught theologian of Lutheran-Pietist background who took care of the refugees and founded the Moravian Church ("Unity of the Brethren"). This story is about him, who also distinguished himself as a poet of hymns.
