Product details
This book is about Johann Samuel Mund, a painter, alchemist and freemason, and his understanding of the Royal Art. He founded the masonic lodge "Covenant of Loyalty and Truth to the 3 Rosicrucians White, Red and Gold", which operated in Frankfurt am Main between 1755 and 1784. Samuel Mund developed his own teaching system with rituals and work teachings, which have been preserved as manuscripts in various archives. In this book, the authors provide the first complete overview of Samuel Mund's teaching system, illustrated with the unique illustrations that Mund himself created for it.In their book, the authors examine the conditions that prevailed at the time of the founding of the Rosicrucian Lodge, the influences that shaped it and the influence it had on the development of the high degrees in the mid-18th century. The connection between practical and philosophical alchemy and Freemasonry, which had not yet hardened dogmatically at that time, is an area that has been little researched to date. This book sheds light on this exciting chapter. The carefully compiled and richly illustrated volume is a joint production of Salier Verlag, Germany, and Lewis Masonic, United Kingdom, and contains all texts in German and English. It is aimed at scholars specialising in the Age of Enlightenment as well as any reader with an interest in the history of ideas, alchemy and esotericism, and Freemasons who wish to explore a fascinating and hitherto neglected chapter in the development of the fraternal order.
