Words have power, as everyone knows in the writer's city of Kapitolo. For from words come characters, and characters come to life. Therefore, anyone who is skilled in writing must submit their fingerprints and a saliva sample. Should a character escape from their story, the authorities can identify the creator of that character, who must then rewrite them back into the story. The passionate fantasy author Kate has never had any problems with her characters. So she is all the more astonished when one night the police ring her doorbell: One of her characters is alleged to have committed murder. For Kate, an adventure begins in which she must not only find her character and save her good reputation but also uncover a secret from the past.
