Wolf Erlbruch, born in 1948, studied graphic design and worked as an illustrator in the advertising industry before he began writing and illustrating children's books in the late 1980s. He is a professor at the University of Wuppertal. In addition to numerous awards, Wolf Erlbruch received the Gutenberg Prize from the City of Leipzig in 2003 for his body of work and the special prize of the German Youth Literature Prize.
