The oboe only gained increasing attention and significance in the second half of the 20th century, although its use in orchestras began much earlier. Between 1914 and 1981, aside from articles from encyclopedias, there were very few German-language books specifically addressing this instrument. For several centuries, the oboe was mostly limited to its function in the orchestra and only began to receive greater recognition and more intensive use as a solo instrument among contemporary composers. The full significance of musical instruments, however, was only achieved with the higher refinement of their construction, which has kept pace with the development of music itself and its changing needs up to the present day. In the course of my work, I would like to focus particularly on the development of the key mechanism of the oboe, especially its beginnings. I do not intend to write a history of the development of the oboe instrument, but rather to better understand the evolution of this instrument from a different perspective.
