"The Kapleau" has become the foundational work of Zen in theory and practice for generations of Zen practitioners in the West. In eleven lessons, it discusses various aspects of teaching and practice - including meditation, breath, the recitation of sutras, and sitting posture, making each facet of the Zen path clear. For the first time, the orally transmitted teachings of a Zen master have been recorded, which had previously always been rejected in written form. The transcripts of individual sessions between the master and ten students provide an intense and authentic insight into the process of Zen training.
