Die Charité: Neue Wege

Berlin, 1858. The maid Sophie is dishonorably dismissed and finds herself with nothing. The son of the family has fallen in love with Sophie, but she is blamed for the situation. She has no choice but to earn money for survival on the streets. When Sophie and her friend Bertha contract one of the rampant sexually transmitted diseases, they are taken to the Charité. However, instead of receiving help there, the two women unknowingly become part of a cruel experiment. When Sophie gets the chance to start working as a nurse at the Charité, she seizes it. But the fear of being caught by her past looms over Sophie like a shadow, especially when she falls in love with a young officer.
