The Expressionism of the "Brücke," founded in Dresden in 1905, marks the beginning of modernity in Germany. Alongside innovative artistic solutions, it also embodies a new way of life. It represents a rebellion against the spirit of the Gründerzeit and everything academic. In form and color, the Brücke emphasizes pure expression for the first time. Their revolutionary visual language reduces visible reality to its essentials; inner feelings are transformed into an artistic language. After its beginnings in Dresden, the Brücke moved to Berlin in 1911. Here, their art reaches its strongest expression with the emergence of urban Expressionism.
