In communication, the significance of a spoken message is determined 38% by the voice, 55% by facial expressions and gestures, and only 7% by the meaning of the words – according to the results of a relevant scientific study that led to the so-called "Mehrabian Rule." It is a monumental task for our brains to register, decode, integrate all these signals, and then enable us to act appropriately. And of course, our brains do not communicate directly with each other; instead, they orchestrate a whole ensemble of motor and sensory functions.

As with any human organ, the brain performs its tasks best when it is in an optimal functional state, physically and mentally healthy. The author encourages us to recognize such a positive brain functional state in ourselves and others and to consciously consider it in interpersonal relationships. He clarifies how we can focus our attention, perceive the impact of our behavior on others, and take into account the psycho-emotional state of our counterpart.
