Product details
Switzerland was fortunately not directly involved in World War II, but the population still felt its effects in various ways. The most significant event was the bombing of the city of Schaffhausen on April 1, 1944. Later, other towns in the border canton were also affected, such as Thayngen and especially Stein am Rhein. For this publication, numerous new, unpublished sources from archives and private estates have been evaluated. This creates a multifaceted picture of the events at that time, enriched with moving accounts from various eyewitnesses. The author clearly demonstrates that the bombing by American B-24 Liberators was the result of a chain of unfortunate circumstances and not, as is sometimes still claimed, an intention or a kind of reprimand for Switzerland.
