The lengthy process is hardly surprising considering the complex and ambivalent role of the origin designation "Switzerland." The author analyzes this designation in its legal, historical, and economic context, taking into account the conflicting interests involved. In addition to outlining the existing protection mechanisms, an international classification is provided, along with a comparison to "Made in Germany." Finally, the revision of the "Swissness" regulations is discussed, focusing on how they have evolved during the legislative process, particularly concerning industrial products, especially watches.
