Die Antwort der Engel

In the midst of World War II, four Hungarian friends, three of whom are of Jewish descent, search for hope, direction, strength, and the meaning of their lives. For seventeen months, one of them, Hanna Dallos, a visual artist and teacher, transmits messages that are recorded in shorthand by Gitta Mallasz and Lili Strausz. These transmissions, which the four friends originally refer to as "instructions," come to an abrupt end with the deportation of Hanna Dallos and Lili Strausz from Budapest to Ravensbrück in December 1944. Gitta Mallasz is the only one of the friends to survive the Second World War and publishes the shared experience for the first time in French in 1976. It is a unique document about the search for meaning and the pursuit of a new, true, light-filled life amidst National Socialism.
