Die Anfänge Bayerns

Two decades ago, the early history of Bavaria seemed almost resolved, but in light of recent research, it raises more questions than ever. To discuss these from an interdisciplinary perspective, representatives from archaeology, history, and linguistics met in Benediktbeuern in March 2010. A critical examination of the sources, combined with newly gained methodological insights, unsettled many older certainties while also revealing new, sometimes surprising perspectives. The contributions in this volume summarize the current state of research. Not only are numerous new approaches presented, but various competing and sometimes even contradictory viewpoints are also represented. The volume is published by the Institute for Bavarian History at LMU Munich and the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation.
